i dreamt of changing the age-old question

Family photo
Four days ago, December 30, 2017. Annual end-of-year party at the Mitchell’s. None of them can comprehend my crazy dream. Today’s five posts are the catalyst for going public.

The Doctor said, “We estimate you have 15 months to live.”

Just a dream?

Sort of.

i dreamt of changing the age-old question, “What would you do if you had six months to live?”

Change it to what?

“What would you do if you had 10 years to live?”

So yeah, for 8.5 years, i’ve been living like my 60th birthday is my last day.

Now, i’m 15 months away from my last day.

PS. i’m fully aware no one knows the day of their death. This is exactly why this is an intriguing endeavor.

If you’re not thinking about death every day…

Disney Pixar Coco
Disney-Pixar Coco arrives in two days.

iPhone X
It arrives today.

If you’re not thinking about death every day, you’re missing out on living like you mean it.

Being intentional helps you become as prepared as you can be.

Being prepared means you are in a great position should adversity strike unexpectedly.

Your mileage may vary.

12 days went by fast

Many Glacier Hotel
Yes, it’s this striking.

Nearly two weeks away from home.

The original trip on November 1st was booked without a return flight, and we eventually booked the return for November 6, which was two days after Dad’s funeral.

Little did we know that Mom wouldn’t be strong enough to attend Dad’s viewing and funeral.

In fact, it happened fast – Mom went to be with Dad the very next day.

Six days apart.

Allegiant Air made it easy to rebook our flight for yesterday evening, two days after Mom’s funeral.

First time for everything

Nursing home room
The floor pad next to the recliner chair at 5:00AM.

Volunteered to spend the night in Cedarbrook’s D221B room.

While this happened, Americans set their clocks back one hour.

Today is November 5, 2017.

Eight hours of sleep with a couple waking moments as Nurses performed their overnight duties.

i’d never slept on the floor at the bedside of a Nursing Home resident until last night/this morning.

And yesterday’s funeral service for my 91-year old Father-In-Law was a beautiful Earthly send off to a Heavenly and Eternal resting place.

Of course you don’t know when you’ll die

Last night.

Funeral in two days.

And a second funeral is imminent.

When is yours?

Of course (with some exceptions), no one knows.

Begs these questions though.

Will you be prepared?

Will you dwell in regret?

Will you be at peace?

Will you feel joy for what lies ahead?
