If there were only six months left to live

solar charger
Yesterday, experimenting with a potential improvement for Glacier National Park. This solar charger would fill the void for the lack of electricity at Granite Park Chalet.

If there were only six months left to live would you continue to make small daily improvements?

Asking you this under the assumption you already have the daily habit of small, daily improvement deeply ingrained. Safe to assume?

It’s so easy to dismiss the daily value of making slightly better choices.

  1. Sticking with the basics is not impressive.
  2. Being in love with boredom is not compelling.
  3. Getting a fraction better isn’t going to be newsworthy.

So let’s say you have decades to live, would you focus on daily incremental improvement? Remember items 1-3?

Perfect timing for an opinion on eccentricity

eccentricity definition
Weirdness, oddness, strangeness – looks like the shoe fits.

Finding solace…

“Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric.” – Bertrand Russell

A deadline i gave myself 10 years ago has 21 months remaining.

Do we need a more sobering reminder?

Jack the bear has been around the world. This is the bead jar’s first trip.

Paulo Coelho’s sober reminder, “One day you’re going to wake up and there won’t be any time left to do the things you’ve always wanted to do.”

Fake it until you make it

positive quote
Yesterday from LinkedIn.

Fake it until you make it.

Belief is a powerful force.

In fact, if there is something you think you can’t do, you can verify it’s true (with yourself – you’re already convinced) because you haven’t done it.

Insider tip: Whatever your impossible is, know it will never turn out like you think. When you finally do the thing you thought you couldn’t, it either turns out better or worse.

i know friends, family, and colleagues who refuse to try because they are not willing to take the risk on better or worse.

You’re doing it wrong, Jeff

Opening Apple Watch 3 box
Opening the box that was shipped from China, at Epcot – a little earlier in the plan than hoped, but we graciously complied at the Epcot bag check table.

Thought maybe we could take this white box in unopened.

Nope. (This was ok too.)

Anticipated worst case scenario, that’s why Chapin was ready with his camera to document the opening.

The future has arrived. No?

You’re doing it wrong, Jeff.

Ok.

To which i think to myself, “But at least i’m doing it.”

Why does that matter?

For many, it doesn’t matter.

And then i remind myself i thought that way too.

Then a series of changes happened and i began a long, slow journey in thinking differently.

The aha moment?

Once i’m doing it, i have a chance to do it better.

Life.

It ain’t a dress rehearsal.

Waiting for perfect means not starting.

Not starting, for me, was riddled with excuses.

Using June 8, 2019 as a deadline for life.

Taking an unopened box to Epcot to open it.

Yeah the stuff i have no role model for.

Live like you mean it.

Or not.

Our choice.
