The mental buffet syndrome

Yesterday before heading to airport and Disneyland.

The mental buffet syndrome.

Focusing on too many things keeps us from doing a few things exceptionally well.

The classic “strengths assessment”.

What are you the best at?

For example: Website development versus landing page optimization.

Entirely different focus.

We rarely see it coming

Seating for 264. Thirteen of us watched the movie on opening day.

We rarely see it coming.

What?

Transformation or stagnation.

He who is not busy being born is busy dying.

If there were only six months left to live

solar charger
Yesterday, experimenting with a potential improvement for Glacier National Park. This solar charger would fill the void for the lack of electricity at Granite Park Chalet.

If there were only six months left to live would you continue to make small daily improvements?

Asking you this under the assumption you already have the daily habit of small, daily improvement deeply ingrained. Safe to assume?

It’s so easy to dismiss the daily value of making slightly better choices.

  1. Sticking with the basics is not impressive.
  2. Being in love with boredom is not compelling.
  3. Getting a fraction better isn’t going to be newsworthy.

So let’s say you have decades to live, would you focus on daily incremental improvement? Remember items 1-3?

Show me the money first

Walt Disney quote
Last night leaving Epcot after dinner.

Adults are worried about their future and their children’s (if they have them) future right?

Not really.

If people put their money where their mouth is, for starters, they’d be exercising regularly, eating a balanced diet, and getting adequate rest.

It seems, with few exceptions, everyone is concerned with what someone else will do while forfeiting their personal right to be a healthy, well-balanced human being.

Take control of your health first, get yourself in order before asking someone else to change.

Unreasonable?

When we stop trying we stop caring.

Or is it, when we stop caring we stop trying?

Does it matter?

It doesn’t matter which we believe comes first. Either way it’s the same bottom line – we no longer care nor try.
