You really have to want it

You really have to want to change or it ain’t ever gonna happen.

Motivation is key.

And the key to motivation is goal-setting through self-reflection.

The keys to self-reflection are nature, exercise, and writing.

The gap

Yesterday, in a Sanibel gift shop.

The gap between what we wish for and what we actually experience is ours to deal with.

The goal seems obvious – eliminate the gap.

How?

Two most compelling ways:

  1. Lower your expectations
  2. Raise your efforts

Picking either one creates a new set of challenges. Challenges are opportunities to create and sustain personal vibrancy.

The other two front running options:

  1. Combination of lower expectations and higher efforts
  2. Learn to live with the gap

Happy present moment.

Toy Story 4

Toy Story 4 had this surprise. We were the only ones in the theater who stayed to see it.

Toy Story 4 was excellent.

Pixar is excellent.

Taking creative risks is excellent.

Start with no

The behind the scenes sunset photo. Instead of looking at the sunset, turn around.

Start with no.

An amazon book crossed my path yesterday. The author suggests that you start with no deal, forget about win-win, and walk away as soon as you need to.

This is the antithesis of prevailing wisdom – go for win-win.

What was helpful for me was to see how powerful a radical idea can be to the person who is willing to risk trying it.

And not only try it, but embrace it and transform.

Think inside the box.

Don’t go the extra mile.

The long way is the short cut.

.think .differently and transformational results

Last night. Bathroom. Have never seen a sign like this. Love it.

.think .differently and transformational results – what do they have in common?

Transformation was elusive because i didn’t want to take the risk to deviate from the well-worn path.

Thinking differently is elusive because its singular goal is to create something new that may not work.

Trying things that may not work is risky.

Risk and failure travel together.

So does risk and success (i am tempted to forget this one).

Real transformation has happened when you finally realize taking risks energizes you instead of terrifies you.
