You are an April Fool

Sam Walton quote
Serendipitous quote yesterday from LinkedIn. No individual writes 5 daily, differently-themed blog posts every day of the year, year after year. But since April Fools Day 2009, that changed.

Fool, stay different, it’s the only way to keep your freedom. And the only way to avoid fitting into someone else’s standards.

.think .differently

Easy as heck to think about. Hard as heck to live out every day.

It remains difficult until the point where it no longer becomes difficult.

Today is year nine’s first post.

Post number 14,611.

Day number 2,923.

From, “Never in a million years” to “i can’t start a day without it.”

What happens when you reach the finish line?

Windermere Town Hall
The starting line and finish line are 30 steps from this doorway, and also the same line for both.

What happens when you reach the finish line?

You automatically reach another starting line.

This post concludes the 8th consecutive year writing five daily, differently-themed blog posts (on 5 separate sites), without missing a single day.

Tomorrow, the starting line for year nine.

What’s the difference between training and development?

What’s the difference between training and development?

Training to meet customer expectations:

  • Trainers
  • Procedures
  • Manuals
  • Objective evaluations
  • Compliance

Development to exceed customer expectations:

  • Leaders
  • No procedures
  • No manuals
  • Subjective evaluation
  • Commitment

We lump these two entirely different tools together as “Training and Development”.

Why is that dangerous?

Lost opportunity?

Easy opportunity?

Lost opportunity.

Which team will win, a well-trained and compliant team or an amazingly developed and committed team?

Do you take your smile with you everywhere you go?

Do you take your smile with you everywhere you go?

It’s so contagious.

No?

Who would you think is in a better mood, the businessman in the designer suit who isn’t smiling when he makes eye contact with you, or the single dad pushing a stroller, wearing cut-off jeans, an old college tee-shirt, and has a smile a mile wide?

Dress for success.

Disney Leadership Keynote 60 minutes vs 90 minutes

GNP
Glacier National Park, Summer 2016. The next blog (Lane8) reveals why this photo was taken.

Disney Leadership Keynote 60 minutes vs 90 minutes.

Same content for either length…

Vision  •  Involvement  •  Accountability  •  Commitment

Same high-energy, serious-focus, fun, interactive delivery.

What’s different then?

The extra 30 minutes adds even more interactive, engaging, thought-provoking activity, roughly seven additional minutes of experiential learning for each of the four world-class leadership excellence basics.
