Only a glimpse of amazing

Rising Sun Motor Inn room
He was 12 on his first Red Bus Tour. And almost 16 on his second yesterday.

It was 1973 and roughly 40 Scouts plus chaperones arrived at Glacier National Park early evening and checked into Swiftcurrent Motor Inn, had dinner and went to bed. After breakfast the next morning, we drove an hour around the southern Park border to Lake McDonald Lodge. It was there i boarded and enjoyed my first Red Bus tour.

That first time, in 1973, i was 14 and all my fellow Red Bus tour passengers were fellow Boy Scouts from my Central Pennsylvania Council.

Yesterday (Aug 1, 2016) was my third tour.

Recap from Sunday 07.31…6-hr Red Bus tour, lunch at Lake McDonald Lodge, Henry driver, dinner at St Mary Lodge, look at shops, ice cream at Two Dog Flats

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Travel home to Walt Disney World

Our final day in Glacier National Park. The clear sky at dawn gave way to clouds and rain as we drove to Kalispel airport to return home to WDW.

With little to do but stare out the window, the view was constantly changing.

When was the last time we had the time to simply watch the clouds go by?

Village Inn at Apgar

Yesterday began at 4am in the Lake McDonald Lodge lobby, using wifi to check in on the real world. During this time, there were two trips back to the cabin to make the second and third cups of hot water with honey.

Being off the grid for four days has been a shock to the system.

A good shock.

One that may soon be a thing of the past.

There are few places in America left untouched by instant communication.

The common sense lesson has been this:

Life goes on without us. And our life isn’t dependent on knowing what everyone else is doing.

When was the last time we went to sleep anticipating a sunrise we may never get a chance to witness again?

And a crazy west facing sunrise to boot.

Yesterday’s west facing vantage point from our balcony offering something unlikely to come again.

A boy, almost 15, finding it difficult to be inspired at such an early hour.

A father, 56, trying hard to believe that the effort is worth the lack luster excitement.

Good morning from Many Glacier Hotel. Photos above are from yesterday.

And right now i’m sitting on our balcony overlooking Swiftcurrent Lake and a nearly indescribable mountain view.

Awaiting the sunrise, listening to Mother Nature awake.

Expecting the sun to soon touch the peaks and descend slowly and gloriously until it touches the lake. Photos of this will post tomorrow.
