A friend of mine, whose parents were forced to flee Taiwan many years ago, told me about an old Chinese blessing/curse. (There is no such “Chinese curse”, but apparently it sounds cooler to say it is). “May you live in interesting times.”
Lorie, we will live in interesting times no matter what people say or do. The glorious good news is that we get to play the hand we are dealt.
We get one life. As far as we can tell.
And even if we get more than one, why waste this one?
