Summer solstice 2025, mind

Neil Young album Decade
First heard this album in 1977. In Ramsey Hall, freshman year at West Chester State College (now West Chester University).

Note: i am writing this post in October 2024, knowing it will publish on June 21, 2025 — the Summer Solstice. As always, this calendar juxtaposition is a unique reflection tool. Stumbled upon the phenomenon many years ago. The time-distance grew from one day to one month, to multiple months to now eight months.

As analogies go, perhaps Summer Solstice is the human lifecycle peak.

Expanding this analogy, Autumnal Equinox can then be the life cycle on the far end of peak life cycle.

Winter Solstice can be the final, ending life cycle.

A decade of Disney retirement (this month) and feeling like a flabby old man (also this month, and also the song title if you look closely) prompted this post’s photo choice.

Countdown to Glacier 2024, mind

Satellite map of Glacier National park
From the airplane’s seat back screen. Left is Continental Divide. Right is Great Plains.

So magnificent.

Super cool to awake in our own bed yesterday.

The more places you see, the more similarities between humans you see.

And, the more places you see, the more differences between humans you see.

Here’s the insight (wisdom) i’ve gained…

i’ve learned our similarities, which appear to me as universal, are foundationally important.

i’ve also learned our differences are overwhelmingly unimportant.

.think .differently

Australia Day 6, mind

Dawn from a condo balcony
We awaken at 5:00 AM and see this. About 15 minutes later, this…
Sunrise
Never gets old.
Colorful toy store Building
Toys never get old either. This place reminds us of Al’s Toy Barn in Toy Story.

We are getting into a groove, slowly but surely.

Grateful we have three weeks in Australia.

We’d likely stay longer if it wasn’t for an upcoming Orlando keynote.

Smile reprise

Shirtless man next to a Iowa Hawkeye statue
Warm enough to sweat without a shirt. University of Iowa.

Felt great to saddle up yesterday and blog without using quotes.

Makes me smile.

Been taking pictures since receiving that first camera as a child. Received a free plastic camera. Our gas station had a promotion that you could get a free camera with a fill up.

Makes me smile.

Note: There’s a chance you had to buy it for a nominal fee but it was like 60 years ago, can’t recall.

Photos are stored in three places. This is an example of having a backup for the backup.

This too makes me smile.

One of those storage places sends a daily “on this day” photo memory sample. Many of the past week or so photos are from this random feed. Today is an example.

More smiling.

Thank you Disneyland

Paradise Pier
Paradise Pier, Disneyland.

Thank you Disneyland.

You provided some wonderful (Magical) insight on the Covid journey that is coming to a new, less stressful milestone – no masks on airplanes.
