Timeless wisdom gets passed down because it’s compellingly accurate

Nick Vujicic and jeff noel
Nick Vujicic was in town last month speaking to West Orange High School about bullying.

Sage advice passed down from generation to generation:

We can be angry for what we don’t have or be thankful for what we do have.

Is this the one simple idea that determines our lifetime attitude, positive or negative?

Nick Vujicic, above, was born without any limbs.

He’s my go-to person when i need a tough reminder that my excuses are invalid.

Classic wish: to do life over knowing what we now know

Dry ice in water science experiment
Last night’s middle school science open house.

Ever wish you could magically do your life over, knowing what you know now?

While it sounds inspiring and aspirational on the surface, deep down it’s never gonna happen. There is no secret formula. We do not have the ability to be reborn as a baby, knowing what we know now.

However, and this is a huge however, we (unquestionably) do have the ability to be reborn knowing what we know now. It’s called Mid Life Celebration.

It’s what you’ve always told yourself you’ve wanted and it’s right in front of you.

Your move.

We should not think like this

proverb

Incredibly lofty doesn’t mean totally impossible.

The secret reality is that unless a goal has the magic to stir our soul – as in impossible – we will not dedicate ourselves to the effort required to conquer our impossible.

Live your life so that if anyone ever said anything bad about you, no one would believe it.

Noticing midlife celebration

Spring Grove, Pennsylvania town established sign

(photo: Spring Grove, Pennsylvania… out for  run yesterday, September 5, 2014)

Long ago, someone noticed a spring surrounded by large groves.

So simple.

So fundamental.

Maybe even a bit ridiculous.

Really, we’re going to name the town Spring Grove?

Some things just seem obvious, and yet, they also seem ridiculous.

Akin to ‘the only constant is change’.

Whatever, right?

Not banking on (and investing heavily in) change is the prerequisite for a midlife crisis.

Knowing this now, we can confidently move forward planning for everything to change.
