Give a month at least to this precious reserve

Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park’s lasting impression on John Muir (known as the Father of America’s National Parks) 125 years ago.

Give a month at least to this precious reserve. The time will not be taken from the sum of your life. Instead of shortening, it will indefinitely lengthen it and make you truly immortal. Nevermore will time seem short or long, and cares will never again fall heavily on you, but gently and kindly as gifts from heaven. – John Muir, on his first visit to Glacier National Park in the early 1890s

The first “sober” New Years Eve happened in 2001

Highline Trail
The best hike of my entire life happened August 31, 2016 with Dave Weir – Highline Trail in Glacier National Park. It happened 3 more times in 2017 on the same trail – with Family July 31, Howard Doran August 30, and solo September 29…pictured here.

September 29, 2017 the trail was deserted.

Smiling because i’m free, yet knowing the devil is always wanting a piece of me,

Fall colors from shrubs and trees, not flowers, this time of year.

Remnant smoke from the 2017 Sprague fire.

The first “sober” New Years Eve happened in 2001.

i intentionally picked December 30 to be my final drinking day, so that New Years Eve (the biggest drinking day in the world) would be the beginning of my resolve.

New Years Day is a terrible day to begin transformational change – it’s so unreliable.

October 1, 2017 and top of mind thoughts this morning

Boat House on Lake McDonald
Short walk to the beach, only 24 hours ago.

Boat House on Lake McDonald
Clouds make the same view different and generally drive a weather change.

Boat House on Lake McDonald
Fires still going, since August 10. Temperatures dropped 25 degrees yesterday.

Boat House on Lake McDonald
Loved the Boat House. The house handbook.

Boat House on Lake McDonald
Even the short walk, i carried Bear spray. Odds are so small, but not zero. Kinda like a seatbelt.

October 1, 2017 and top of mind thoughts this morning are:

  1. Slept two and a half hours past normal wakeup until 7:20am. Rare.
  2. Remember swearing years ago i’d never take a late flight home from Glacier. Did it last night. Rare. “Desperate”.
  3. Trip was “too short”.
  4. While it was tempting to feel remorseful for having to leave, i had to work harder than normal (but not very long…maybe 10 seconds) to channel my energy into being so incredibly blessed to have had this opportunity.
  5. Happy 46th birthday Walt Disney World and Magic Kingdom.
  6. Happy 35th birthday Epcot.
  7. Looking forward to opening a box today at Epcot – sent from China.
  8. Leaning more heavily toward spending double the time at Glacier next Summer. Four-plus weeks instead of two-plus weeks.
  9. Spent more time (still a drop in the bucket compared to heavy users) on Facebook since i am posting Glacier photos and videos.
  10. Getting closer to making a decision on a post to share how the real battle from the onlookers isn’t with politics, it’s with the CEO of their life.
  11. The reality of my 10-year goal to do everthing i want to do before time is up – i only have one more Summer – June 8, 2019 is the “deadline”.
  12. i wonder what older members of my Family want, if anything, from me.

Writing is good for my health.

Happy third year of Disney retirement jeff

weather at Glacier in October
Temps dropped yesterday 25 degrees and nothing but clouds.

Lake McDonald in October
Drastic weather change from the past three days.

In the midst of adversity, expect opportunity.

Reminiscing on the 2008-2009 economic tsunami and the Disney layoffs that resulted, i distinctly remember feeling betrayed.

The layoff “formula” didn’t make sense to me.

i was also at the height of my personal feelings that Disney Institute had nowhere to go but up when it came to modeling our message.
