Regarding our Son, of what special skills, strengths, achievements, or potential are we especially proud?

Skills: Honesty, behaving admirably, personal responsibility, self-control, initiative, fun.

Strengths: Kindness, creativity, learning, simplicity, perseverance, story creation including complex storylines. A sense of humor. Instinct; similar to an animal’s, he can sense other’s energy as sincere or insincere.

Achievements: Overcoming shyness (including self-confidence challenges) and transitioning from a middle school with 11 students to a high school of 500.

What have been some high points or low points

downed tree in pond
It’s challenging, sometimes, to go out on a limb.

What have been some high points or low points in your son’s high school experience?

The low points probably won’t be realized until later. Generally, these are the regrets (of all sizes) for things he (like us) didn’t do.

The high points probably won’t be realized until later as well. Generally, these are the victories (of all sizes) over things he didn’t think he could do, but did.

PS. Happy 117th birthday Walt Disney. The hidden Mickey (above photo) is in your honor.

In what ways do one or two events or experiences

High School author

In what ways do one or two events or experiences in your son’s development seem especially significant?

Publishing his first book as a High School Sophomore. Learning how to storyboard, organize, decide, and ship a book are skills many adults only dream of. His confidence grew exponentially.

Becoming a Shot Putter on the Track team. His dad forced him to do something with a group of people five days a week after school. So he wouldn’t have to run, he picked the shot put. The Track coach convinced him (a miracle) to join the Cross Country Team in the Fall. He had more reasons to quit than another other teammate but never did.

Bonus: Attending a Montessori School for a decade before High School. He learned to think for himself to solve complex and interesting challenges.

Please indulge in mental self-care.

Know what you’re looking for before you start looking.

Why?

Confusion and doubt do not nourish a positive mental attitude.

  • Great English Department
  • Clean and safe campus (includes dorm rooms)
  • Great food
  • Close (30 mins+- ) to airport

Maybe campus karma too.
