Midlife Drudgery?

A Penny For Your Thoughts?
A Penny For Your Thoughts?

Everyday it’s the same, isn’t it? Wake up. Stumble out of bed. Do the usual routine. Off to work. Come home. Throw dinner together. Do the usual. Bedtime.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Ever get tired of it?

A penny for your thoughts…

  1. I’ve always understood why the military stresses routine. For me routine is what keeps me sane. Yes it can be drudgery….but drudgery is what makes it routine. I don’t have to put a lot of thought to it. I use this in coaching as well. We practice things the same way everyday so the players can put as little thought into as possible. It becomes second nature. So bring on the drudgery! The brain re-set button is called ….The Weekend!

  2. What I would give for a little but more drudgery — a little more sanity in my crazy life.

I am thankful for the rinsing and repeating in my life. For when a wrench enters the works, it’s nice to know it’s landing on a steady foundation.

  3. Jeff,

I thought it was just the Type-A personality in me that required my life to have some semblance of order in it. 🙂 But I believe structure and order are necessary to function in a disorderly world!

Like I told my son the other day: “I have enough unplanned events in life to also have to wonder, ‘Where are my car keys?’ So I place them in the same location each day to remove that variable, too.”

  4. Patty, life is drudgery. Look at the animal kingdom for clues. Thousands of years doing the same thing to survive season after season.

    Routine has it’s place.

  5. Bob, plan for the unexpected. It’s most likely waiting for us when we least expect it.

    You’re right, control the controllables.

  6. Jeff,
I thought the Animal Kingdom was just over a decade old?!? 🙂

I caught myself instructing my students (tutoring) about following a routine and writing things down in order to make solving their problems easier.

I caught myself feeling guilty for not following my own advice in other realms…

  7. April 1998 to be exact. But not the theme park, the real park, Earth.
Thank you for your honest sharing. It’s good for the soul. 🙂
