Because i don’t doesn’t mean i don’t want to

excuses, regrets, opportunities
Excuses, regrets, opportunities…used Siri to text me the above thought while biking yesterday,

Because i don’t doesn’t mean i don’t want to…

Just because i’m always positive doesn’t mean i’m not tempted to be negative.

Just because i exercise regularly doesn’t mean i wouldn’t rather relax at home.

Just because i rarely eat sugar doesn’t mean i don’t want to eat chocolate all day, every day.

Just because i go to bed early and awaken early doesn’t mean i don’t want to stay up late or sleep in.

Just because i consistently go to Church doesn’t mean i’d rather use Sunday mornings for something else.

Just because i do not get angry doesn’t mean i don’t want to get angry.

Just because i work so hard to be amazing in my profession doesn’t mean i’d rather spend less time studying, networking, writing, and chasing impossible goals.

Just because i’m decently organized, doesn’t mean there are many days where it is so hard to make decisions on what to keep, what to donate, and what to recycle.

Just because i love technology doesn’t mean i love all the time it takes to keep up with it.

Years ago, i purchased the domain name www.ExcuseWhisperer.com

Wishing everyone the best today.

The rhythm of a regular bedtime

Today is the 2,558th consecutive day of writing five differently-themed blogs.

The rhythm of a regular bedtime is the foundation of self-discipline. What time we went to bed last night directly impacts how we felt waking up this morning.

And how we wake up drives how our morning goes, and our morning impacts the rest of the day. This is so painfully obvious that it’s almost embarrassing to write about.

Trust me, i’m fully aware of life’s unpredictability. But we can’t use fear (reality) of the “unexpected” to give us permission to not stay focused, and control what we can control. And we can control when we go to bed.

Saying we can’t is lying, in my opinion.

Imagine going to bed at relatively the same time for 2,557 days (nearly seven years) – how would that change things?

PS. Trust me, sometimes the only way i can get all the work done is to sacrifice sleep. The point here is that there are exceptions to every rule. And that we should never allow our occasional exceptions to become the standard.

Two secrets for how to not be broken under any circumstance

What would it take to achieve and then maintain for a lifetime, a positive mental attitude? An attitude which could not be broken under any circumstance.

A critical success factor would have to be self-control.

This could be the missing piece for those of us who think being positive all the time is impossible.

Oh, and patience. Patience is also critical. Why? Because it may take 40 to 50 years to become an an overnight success – speaking from personal experience.
