The jar has been there for 18 years

Bead jar jeff noel
Final bead comes out today. The bead jar has been on my desk for 18 years.

The jar has been there for 18 years.

The jar was filled with 936 small beads – one bead for every weekend in an 18-year old’s life.

Our Son turns 18 tomorrow.

i have a calendar appointment for every Saturday labeled “take a bead”.

Today is Saturday.

The jar in the photo above is now empty.

Do you remember turning 18?

Disney Institute Keynote Speaker
Do you remember turning 18?

Do you remember turning 18?

Many doors open for you when you turn 18.

Many close.

As an official adult, concessions you get automatically as a teen, you are no longer entitled to.

You become the fulltime owner of your life.

You own every mistake.

You deserve every victory.

And all the stuff that falls in between is your responsibility to manage, sustain, and improve.

Which do you choose to feed?

Glacier Park road sign
One way leads you 50 miles across Glacier National Park, the other way leads you two miles to the exit.

Which do you choose to feed?

The wolf of pessimism?

The wolf of optimism?

Each leads somewhere.

You have to decide which journey will excite you.

Responsibility

Lake McDonald Lodge
Wonderful. Home and office away from home. Lake McDonald Lodge in Glacier National Park.

Not only is everything your responsibility, it’s also your obligation.

  • Be true to yourself.
  • Do work that matters.
  • Be an insatiable learner.
  • Lean into discomfort.
  • Enjoy your journey.
  • Revel in your discoveries, good or not so good.

All day.

Every day.
