Mental Oppenheimer

College orientation slide
Sippy Downs is 9k miles away as the crow flies. USC orientation begins this morning.

Breaking important things down to their tiniest level is the starting point for understanding cause and effect.

Mental vibrancy is like mental physics. It only makes sense to people who have studied at the quantum levels. Same for body, spirit, work, home.

We watched Oppenheimer last night.

Immediately felt something unexpected.

By the way, had no idea what Oppenheimer, the movie or the man, was about.

Turns out, Oppenheimer gave birth to America’s atomic bomb.

His fascination (obsession) with cause and effect in his space led to an incredibly powerful “thing”.

Is the thing a tool to deter world war?

Is the thing a weapon to strike first?

To me that’s a mute point for today’s posts.

The point for me is a human being dedicated his existence to answering the question, “What is possible?”

In my mind, i’ve dedicated my existence to personal (and organizational) vibrancy.

What is possible when mental vibrancy is achieved?

Genius is no guarantee of wisdom. Wisdom is no guarantee of genius.

World’s most unconventional Disney speaker.

Who is it?

And, does it matter?

Who is it?

i aim for it to be me.

Does it matter?

It does to a few.

A few who?

A few leaders trying to make a dramatic leap in their organizational culture.

A very merry day

Being healthy and in synch with the daily life rhythms is an easily unnoticed blessing. Why? Because it becomes a norm. Autopilot. A nice place to live. Business as usual. An expectation.

We don’t know what we have until it disappears.

Fighting severe jet lag the past week.

Going in and out of sore throat and nausea.

Big keynote speech at Disney yesterday.

Now, this morning, fighting cold and flu symptoms.

Three days ago i went to the walk-in clinic to mitigate a possible collision between an illness and a keynote speech.

i wondered, what if i become too sick to show up for the keynote?

In 25 years of speaking, i’ve never missed a speech. Have also never had to deliver a speech while sick. A remarkable batting average.

So the two separate nose swabs plus the throat swab will confirm what i have or don’t have.

Turned out all three tests said i have no illness.

But today i have classic cold and flu symptoms.

So grateful that yesterday’s wooziness two hours before speaking faded and i was ready and able and excited to go.

Mental invisibility

Mental vibrancy habits are invisible. This is why mental vibrancy is considered a myth.

dad

No one sees the work mentally vibrant people do. This is why positivity and unwavering optimism seems nearly impossible.

On being an elder, mentally

Mountains
GNP webcam, mid-February.

Embrace your crazy thinking. For me, it’s my salvation.

dad

One year at Disney, for an entire year, i wrote everything, personally and professionally, without using “i, me, my, mine”.

Can you imagine?

Not in emails.

Not in texts.

Not on social media posts or comments.

Not to clients, bosses, colleagues.

Not in 1,825 annual blog posts.

Dude, for 365 consecutive days.

Do you have any idea the intentionality, the over-focusing, on this?

Try doing it for a day.

If you succeed, try for two consecutive days.

Make that?

Try a week, a month, a quarter, a year.

It’s insane.

That’s why no one does it.

But if you were an exception to the rule, how do you think doing the impossible, the ludicrous, the remarkably different would impact your thinking?
