Speaking of failing to succeed

oak firewood
Yesterday morning the next house over from ours. Motivation is like a fire. You must continuously add fuel or it will go out.

Speaking of failing to succeed…

We need to call out the elephant in the room:

i’m direct and very focused.

This can be good.

It can also be bad.

Depends on the audience (and on the audience’s motivation).

Here’s my challenge, i’m also warm and fuzzy.

We (father and son) need to brainstorm ways to minimize the gap between direct and focused, and, warm and fuzzy.

If i (we) can figure this out, the coaching opportunities soar in their effectiveness.

Why?

Any resistance to my messaging inhibits optimal learning.

Becoming defensive sends all creative thought in the wrong direction.

The mind sees what it wants to see

Spotted this in a parking lot and immediately interpreted it as “VISION”.

The mind sees what it wants to see.

We train it to think a certain way, over the course of our life.

The past few weeks, i’ve been helping some folks commit to a vision that’s clear, concise, and compelling.

They’re making progress.

Not nearly as fast as they’d like, but nothing worthwhile magically falls from the sky.

And just to clarify those lucky breaks that sometimes happen; luck favors the prepared.

The changes are imperceptible, except for a few

April 2015 calendar
Today is just a single day.

A tree does not grow overnight, but it does grow.

Same with us.

It happens so slowly :

  • Learning to walk
  • Losing our virginity
  • Moving into our own place
  • The death of a parent

The days cannot teach nor prepare us like decades can.

As we age we can cast more shade, because our roots are wide and deep.

Makes sense when we think about it, but we never do.

When we change our perceptions, we change the chemistry of our body

When we change our perceptions, we change the chemistry of our body.

The only thing that’s missing from rewiring our perceptions is permission to do so.

It took almost 50 years for an author friend to figure this out.

It’s the same friend that took this photo yesterday.
