The only constant is change

Yesterday, 20 minutes before Ubering to the airport, Delta tells us weather has made it impossible to get to Glacier National Park. Air, car, and hotel all had to be rescheduled. Was it possible?

The only constant is change.

We know this.

But.

Do we plan for it?

And.

Do we strengthen our personal systems and processes to allow for rapid, mostly pain-free, and creative solutions to unexpected challenges?

Son, you have the opportunity to learn, develop, and hone personal systems and processes you control – decades earlier than me.

Unbelievable Glacier National Park karma

Team Disney Building, also know as Corporate HQ at Walt Disney World.

Unbelievable Glacier National Park karma yesterday at 6am.

Mario, the Madrid airport car service driver yesterday was exceptionally courteous for so early in the morning.

This was a sign to a fellow morning person to engage in robust conversation at such an early hour.

When i asked him if he’d ever been to the United States he said, “Yes, Glacier National Park.”

i shouted, “Shut up!

We talked about his visit (he has a friend who worked there last Summer) and then i told him, “i’m heading there tomorrow”.

Today is yesterday’s tomorrow, so in six hours Chapin and i are Glacier bound.

What are the odds to be in a Madrid cab and have this timing?

Only happens once each year

Granite park Chalet reservations 2019
Took 2 hours and 10 minutes to get the reservation request screen to load.

It only happens once each year and no one cares.

Okay, maybe 500 people in the world care, but that’s it.

What?

Glacier National Park’s Granite Park Chalet accommodations (12 rooms) open for requests the first Monday every January.

In about five minutes, the entire 70-day booking season is filled.

Those adults and their devices

Wild Goose Island
Arrival day for Glacier 2018 trip 5.

Wild Goose Island
All i did in this photo was smile a little wider and raise the eyebrows enough to crease the forehead. Same people, same location, different energy. Our attitude and thinking can be slightly tweaked too – with similarly and remarkably different energy.

Family room.

TV.

Or…

Restaurant with sports bar.

Big screen TVs.

The other night at The Big Easy i scanned the restaurant and island bar.

Nothing but older (40+) white men at the bar.

All of them staring at their devices – the big screen TVs with Sunday Pro Football games.

Please think twice before negatively stereotyping teens as being sucked up in their devices.

Think of the 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s stereotypes of a dad at the breakfast table reading the newspaper while mom cooked breakfast and got the kids ready for their day. The newspaper was the “screen” back then.
