Great first visit of 2019 at Glacier National Park

Lake McDonald Lodge
Lake McDonald Lodge Front Desk, yesterday morning.
Lake McDonald Lodge yesterday morning at 5:30am.

Every morning the birds wake me. Ironic since the iPhone “alarm” sound is chirping birds.

It starts getting light around 4:30am. Alarm set for 5am. Got up at 4:45am. Almost 8 hours of sleep.

Wrote five blog posts.

Ate breakfast in the room thanks to the hot pot and Mountain House meal packet.

Packed.

Tidied the room to minimize housekeeping efforts. i opted for no cleaning the entire nine days.

Strolled around the “campus”.

Spent quality time at the front desk with Alan and Brad (B-Rad as he is known by friends).

Evelia does the art work. We spoke via phone a few days before i arrived.
From room. Happy Father’s Day.
Started five hours earlier than the previous day.
We have company.
i was the first one on the scene.
Strength in numbers. All of us must pass the bear.

Off to a great start. Cool, crisp morning. Started with all four layers plus hat and gloves.

Happy Father’s Day 2019.

To be a dad is the greatest blessing.

They say being a grand parent is even better.

Not sure how that will play out for us.

We’ve been exceptionally focused on parenting, because we didn’t become parents until our 40’s.

Humble start, humble finish

Good morning brand new day.
Good evening and happy present moment.

Humble start, humble finish.

The sunrise yesterday was wonderfully simple. No fiery reds nor deep oranges. Soft pinks, whites and grays.

Sunrise is at 5:30am here.

To be awake, alert, and 100 steps from the Lodge’s dock…how can that not be spectacular?

Dinner cost $7.00 and took one minute to boil two cups of water in the room and nine more minutes for the spaghetti to “cook” in the bag.

The stuff in between sunrise and a late dinner (8pm) was Magical.

We salute you

Flag Day was yesterday, Friday the 14th.
Early start to our toughest (longest and highest) hike of the week.
We hiked Fish Lake (lower left) two days ago and did the Snyder Creek hike (pointing) yesterday.
It was roughly two miles to this point, all uphill. A 2,000’ elevation gain overall.

Yesterday was Flag Day.

Things only become a big deal to you if you make them a big deal.

As a parent, i get to make choices. Some easy, some hard, and some that may not pay off for a long time, if ever.

All i can sense is that my approach to parenting is more intentional than if i had been a younger parent.

We started with a 7:00am breakfast and then hit the trail.

At nearly 10 miles round trip with a 2,000’ elevation gain, Snyder Lake was our longest and steepest hike this week.

The payoff wasn’t worth it if we used the poor view as the criteria, the abundance of mosquitos, and the muddy conditions.

The good news?

We completed a fairly challenging morning hike in easy fashion.

Brainstorming 101 and thinking inside the box

Disney creativity lesson commencing at Lake McDonald Lodge. Snack box easel holding our Disney Creativity template.
Replaced snack box with water bottle easel.
Used this exact same model (including the post-it layout) in the Madrid Disney Creativity speech.
He did all the writing and was a great collaborator.
Took some photos to use as examples of what i’d like him to capture when he’s in the photographer role. The picture is intriguing because of the wildlife.
This photo places us on the second floor.
This photo simply shows our progress as we work through six boxes of content.

Brainstorming 101 and thinking inside the box is maximized when a leader establishes an environment where ideas have no choice but to flourish.

There is a Disney framework i use for creativity in my personal life. It’s the same architecture i use in my Disney speaking business.

It’s simple to remember and simple to use.

Simplicity and scalability is the key.
