Sun or Tunnel?

Going to the Sun Mountain almost touched the clouds yesterday morning. Photo credit: Collin Williams.
Hiking the Ptarmigan Tunnel trail yesterday morning.

The last minute offer to summit Going-to-the-Sun Road was incredible.

Felt it was out of my league, balked, and let too much time pass.

Before the offer, Ptarmigan Tunnel was the hike for today and its trail head just two minutes from my room door.

Wait!

The Sun Mountain hike offer is rare, so i changed my mind and bolted from Swiftcurrent to rush to Siyeh Bend for the trail head.

Nine Eleven

Yesterday, September 10, 2019. Was able to watch the entire Apple Special Event live streamed while sitting in the Swiftcurrent Valley.

Nine Eleven.

Two-thousand one.

Pausing for a moment of silence.

Will hike today knowing that this was the day the world stopped turning.

You won’t believe what you can do

Not sure i can devote two hours today to this luxury distraction. *
Lake McDonald Lodge marina, looking at the Garden Wall where Granite Park Chalet sits.
Zooming in to the Garden Wall.

Do we focus on the lost day at Granite Park Chalet or the glorious day at Granite?

Simple.

Mourn because the rosebush has thorns or rejoice because the thornbush has roses?

A positive mental attitude really is this simple.

Over-focus on your habits and rituals and enjoy the fruits of your efforts.

The time will pass anyway, pick better choices during the time you have.

Remember, this is you training your thoughts so you can do this rethinking while simultaneously doing other physical tasks.

The longer you look, the more you see

Mt. Oberlin draped in clouds yesterday. Rain is on its way.

The longer you look, the more you see.

Blinding flash of the obvious.

Right?

Over-focus on the amount of time you spend nurturing, honing and improving your attitude.

Why?

So that you spend more time doing it.

Why?

Because you will see and feel things – and learn things – you never would have if you short changed yourself.

When you change what you see, what you see changes.

Knowing the obvious isn’t enough, you must act.

The long way is the shortcut

Grinnell Glacier Overlook hike.

The long way is the shortcut.

If heavily promoted shortcuts worked, it would be the standard not a shortcut.

There is no shortcut to Granite Park Chalet.

Up at 5AM, got the last parking space at The Loop, hit the trail by 8:00AM and arrived at Granite Park Chalet at 11AM. Jared took us to room 18.

Life is good.

Later, we hiked three miles roundtrip to Grinnell Glacier Overlook, returning to Granite as the sun set.
