To each their own, mind

Teddy bear on a hotel room bed
Finland, 2009.

Freedom of speech.

Freedom of thought.

Think what you want to think.

To each their own.

Don’t worry about what others think.

They don’t worry about what you think.

What a revelation.

Who knew?

Now i know.

One of my late-in-life revelations.

It’s easy to wonder what my life would have been like had i known this decades ago. But gratefully, i haven’t spent any time thinking about it.

Live and let live, mind

If Disney Ran Your Life podcast
An episode recorded every week (on average) for two years…100 episodes about Personal Vibrancy, including an entire season on Mental Vibrancy.

Let people think what they want to think.

A mentally thoughtful person has been on a long, lonely, invisible journey.

How do i know?

To ‘master’ anything, my experience says:

  1. The long way is the short cut.
  2. No one sees all your behind the scenes work.
  3. No one sees your failures.
  4. No one understands your motives.

Few will notice your thoughtful consistency once you pass the threshold from sometimes being thoughtful to often being thoughtful.

And then the dramatic leap to most of the time, and finally, potentially, to all the time.

Summer solstice 2025, mind

Neil Young album Decade
First heard this album in 1977. In Ramsey Hall, freshman year at West Chester State College (now West Chester University).

Note: i am writing this post in October 2024, knowing it will publish on June 21, 2025 — the Summer Solstice. As always, this calendar juxtaposition is a unique reflection tool. Stumbled upon the phenomenon many years ago. The time-distance grew from one day to one month, to multiple months to now eight months.

As analogies go, perhaps Summer Solstice is the human lifecycle peak.

Expanding this analogy, Autumnal Equinox can then be the life cycle on the far end of peak life cycle.

Winter Solstice can be the final, ending life cycle.

A decade of Disney retirement (this month) and feeling like a flabby old man (also this month, and also the song title if you look closely) prompted this post’s photo choice.

Change what you see, mind

Snow-covered mountains
Winter 2024, descending into the Flathead Valley.

You know the drill…

When you change what you see, what you see changes.

Change your thoughts, change what you see.

The need to grow, mind

Flight map from USA to Australia
Growth mindset implores you to prioritize your priorities. Our priorities after safety? Service. Service to God, Family, self. Then finally, simplicity.

The need to grow is an important concept. It’s a simple concept too.

Stumbled upon a poster while a college Junior featuring a Bob Dylan quote. It’s timely for this post:

He who is not busy being born is busy dying.

Perhaps my biggest mental growth is honing my focus and discipline to be able to steer my thoughts to stay in the present moment.
