Best dreaming time

i dream during the day, wide-awake, wide-open, no brakes.

dad

In the privacy of sleep and darkness (eyes closed) there’s safety in dreaming unconsciously. It’s a dream. Silly. Unintentional. Weird even. Def not grounded in reality.

Up on the roof, again

55-second video: Always busy, never in a hurry.
Stars at dawn
A rare view of stars from Orlando — our rooftop. Orion, easily recognizable for many people is in the center.

Watch as many sunrises and sunsets as you can.

dad

Quietly and patiently watching a sunrise opens your being to a brand new day — a day you’ve never seen before, nor will ever see again.

Quietly and patiently watching a sunset closes your being to a brand new evening — an evening you’ve never seen before, nor will ever see again.

In both moments, you can think anything you want. These moments are special because without the act of sitting still to slowly watch, you will rarely pause like this.

Better to habitually pause than to not habitually pause.

You promised

6-second video: We walked to DU and back to Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Then we walked from the Contemporary to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort. Wait there’s more…then we took the boat to Disney’s Magic Kingdom and walked to Contemporary from MK.

Be a person of your word.

dad

If you tell me you’re gonna do something, even if you didn’t quote/unquote ‘promise’, i still consider what you said a promise.

Note to self: Be careful what i say because everything i say can (and should) be considered a promise.

Detail secrets

4-second video: DU. Attention to detail is our (Disney’s) secret.
Two retirees at Magic Kingdom entrance
Does that guy’s hat say, Glacier National Park?

Exceed expectations, pay attention to details.

dad

While at Disney Institute (DI), early in my DI career, i developed and operationalized this “Disney Customer Service” mantra. It wasn’t the content specialist designer mindset that created this. It was me trying to simplify a sparkly-design mentality. The bells and whistles, pixie-dusted vernacular had our (paying) audience blinded to the simple Disney DNA. i made and continue to make it my life’s work to deconstruct and then reconstruct Disney’s world-class operational DNA. “Pay attention to details, exceed expectations.”

Fix it bruh

dirt road
You drove all over Windermere’s dirt roads.

Fix your mental self-talk.

dad

Remember when you first started driving lessons with me on the neighborhood sand roads in Windermere? You thought you could never learn to drive. How’d that work out?
