Never before

Mountain lake
Lake McDonald from a never-before seen (by me) angle. Lake McDonald is 10 miles long.
Mountain range
The massive mountains, the vast wilderness, and my tiny presence is marginalized in this photo.
Mountain range
Northern Rockies, just miles from Canadian border. Highline Trail lower right. Granite Park Chalet (my base camp) upper right-ish.
Mountain lake
Lake McDonald. Radical view. Awesome and humbling to reach this angle.

L-R: Reynolds, Oberlin (fireground), Jackson (behind Oberlin), Clements, Bearhat (far right edge). Cannon is just out of sight past the right edge.

Big picture, let your life be your lesson.

Divide life into five big buckets (choices).

Master your mind, body, spirit, work, and home.

Starting with mind…

Let your attitude be your lesson.

Shine like the sun

Mountain View from car
Waiting for sunrise. Enjoying the car’s warmth.

Rocky Mountains. A day hike from here gets you to Canada.

The greatest gift you can give the youth and young adults in your life is your growth mindset lifestyle.

Currently sitting in the dark on a metal bed at 6,600’. It’s 37 degrees. No heat, no electricity, no running water. Pit toilet. One million acres of National Park. Thirty miles from the closest town of 100. No cell signal inside the million-acre Park. Weak to zero cell signal in a 100′ by 100′ square area around the 12-room Chalet.

Just saw a handful of yesterday’s wedding photos that Cheryl sent. Aging is not kind to people who neglect their health. Neglecting physical health erodes your mental health.

Note to self: become your family’s shining example or their glaring warning.

Granite here i come

Airport flight schedule board
Yesterday. Flying through Denver.

Overslept.

Woke up at 5am instead of 330am.

Set iPhone alarm 800pm – 330am.

Thought 7.5 hours sleep will be a gift.

Awoke at 2am. Checked phone. Was asleep 3 seconds later.

Awoke 4:57AM, 90 minutes later than planned. Thought i was dreaming. Luckily (never luck though, always over-focused) the car was ready to go.

Opened the Motel’s Going-to-the-Sun road-facing window to listen for traffic intensity. It was mild, compared to July. Nearing Labor Day, this delightfully surprised me. Lowered panic mode to decent anxiety, which lowered again to mild anxiety…

Of the 20 spaces at The Loop, will there be one trailhead parking space for me?

Left the Motel room keys on the nightstand. Left at 530am, 45-degrees outside.

Note: Heading out the door in 30 minutes instead of the normal 120 minutes is remarkable. Having the car completely ready to go is the only thing that made it work without panic or rushing.

The great reflection

Disney’ speaker jeff noel
Continental Divide, reflecting during August 2020.

What has Covid-19 allowed you to think about differently than before?

Why?

Why haven’t these thoughts been previously possible for you?

What have you learned from this?

Covid-19 quarantine

backyard campfire
Within 24 hours, a (cooking) fire. No place like home.

The threat of Covid-19, the removal of conveniences, no media distractions, and no entertainment – for 50 days – a once in a lifetime opportunity.
