Welcome to backcountry ‘luxury’.

Growth mindset brings you things a closed mindset cannot fathom.

To this day, today, i can easily feel guilty for an over-abundance of blessings.

Going to Sperry Chalet for one night is a lifetime dream come true.

This Summer will be at Sperry three times, six nights total.

Today is reservation two and night two.

GNP Day 12, mentally

Apple Watch on someone’s wrist in the mountains
Here we go again. Third day in a row. Oberlin summit #26 beckons.
Series of waterfalls in the mountains
Being the only one on the mountain early or late in the day used to frighten me.
Fossilized shallow-ocean floor (foreground).

Said it before and saying it again, do what you fear and the death of that fear is certain.

It’s only impossible until you do it the first time.

GNP Day 11, mentally

Less than 12 hours from last night’s sunset summit. What a privilege. This is not lost on me.
It’s a coming this way…
7-second video: Will i make it to the top before enveloped in clouds?

Find a million ways to stay motivated.

GNP Day 10, mentally

Apple Watch on a wrist in the mountains
6:25pm…second attempt at Oberlin.  First attempt a week ago…too much snow.
Mountains
One week ago this was covered in snow.
Apple Watch on a wrist in the mountains
Enough snow has melted that the ascent is possible….37 minutes to the saddle.
Apple Watch on a wrist in the mountains
Wow, 61 minutes to the summit. The main reason for this “speed” is zero time spent way finding and/or making/fixing cairns.

Oberlin’s first 2022 summit delayed by snow. Interesting that it was a sunset summit. In 2020, an Oberlin sunset summit earned “the scariest GNP experience ever”.

GNP Day 9, mentally

23-second video: Spotted a Mountain Goat group of 11 on a small snow field high on Piegan Mountain.

While enjoying a scenic lunch, discovered a Mountain Goat family far away.

Finished lunch and started making my way in their direction, as they were making their way towards mine.
