Prepare your mind

“Keep moving forward” is something Walt Disney liked to encourage others with.

Prepare your mind for the future. The long way is the shortcut.

dad

Your attitude should continuously improve, slowly and steadily, each year–and every decade you are stronger, more positive, more optimistic, and demonstrably focused on your growth-mindset.

Insight: Mental habits are formed one thought at a time. Our thoughts begin by default and later in life, potentially, by design. As you age/mature, and especially when you live on your own, start to over-focus on the same things you used to under-focus on or ignore.

Doing good?

Pixar character toy figurines on a table
What’s the answer to the auto-pilot question, “How you doing?”

Do as much good, for as many people, as often as you can.

dad

Doing good is not an answer, it’s an imperative.

A toast to power

Mountains
There was a time when sitting here was only a dream, like hitting the Powerball lottery. Never in a million years. Why? Astronomical odds. For both.

Parenting, one day in the future. In real life.

Optimism is power.

dad

Hooray for power.

Power is a great feeling.

Love your family (and yourself) so much you get and stay optimistic for them.

Bonus: Teach them how to do the same by the power of your example.

Insight: A powerful example may not be enough for another. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Hey August, Happy New Year

Yellow Post-it note with 2024 written on it
Hello new year.
Yellow Post-it note with numbers on it
January 1 and August 10 are connected by the following: Writing this on New Year’s Day… And publishing this on August 10, 2024.

If all you get in 2024 is what you were thankful for last week, will it be enough?

dad

Curse the thorns or cherish the flowers?

We see what we want to see.

How we think in 2024, or any year, is how our year will go.

Do we see problems, or challenges?

Problems, or opportunities?

When you change what you see, what you see changes.

Fleeting days

pink post it note with writing on it
New Year’s Eve, 2001. First day of third attempt to ‘quit drinking’. Made it over 21 years without a drop before a new idea about drinking revealed itself.

If not now, when? If not ever, why?

dad

The days are long, the years are short.

i think Gretchen Ruben said that. She went viral with “The Happiness Project”.
