No Two Shells Are Exactly Alike

You are unique, just like everyone else.

Most people privately think they are special in some way.

And the rest of the world is challenged to believe this, because unless you are the tallest human, the fastest, the strongest, the smartest, the longest hair, the oldest – it’s really challenging for others to readily see your uniqueness.

But each of us is unique. Every single one of us. We have something that only we bring to the party.

As we go through our daily grind today, we will be faced with many choices. Are you committed to choosing wisely? I mean day after day, choice after choice.

Midlife Enables Us To See Clearly

“Have you ever had a midlife crisis?”, I asked the US Airlines flight attendant yesterday as we were waiting to disembark in Orlando. We sat across from one another, face to face – me in the exit row aisle seat, her in the “jump seat”.

The middle seat next to me was empty, and in the window seat was Mark, another US Air employee. Mark and I spoke at length, and he spoke with the flight attendant across from us, but I did not. Not until that question.

With an unanticipated wisdom, she replied, “Not really. I think it’s a guy thing.”

Clarifying, I added, “I’m not talking about the stereotypical convertible sports car, younger woman thing, I mean when you journey through life and arrive at the place you worked your whole life for, and suddenly realize it’s not where you want to be?”

What she said next really surprised me, “That’s because we don’t know who we are.”

Bingo!

In two days, I’m celebrating one year of writing five daily blogs.

The learning curve has been amazing. Sometimes steep and challenging.  Sometimes flat and easy.

At jeff noel.com, I wrote a Mid Life Celebration summary.  Wanted to share it here, one last time, before it’s removed:

“Mid Life Celebration is where I challenge myself to: Rethink.  Reprioritize.  Recommit.

There are four key areas to my life, every life actually, and I share thoughts, tips and on a good day, a decent dose of motivation.

I’m challenging myself, because I’m crystal clear on the fact that none of us is going to live forever.

I am very thankful for the wake up calls in my life.   I no longer ignore the clock.  I embrace it and am inspired by it. What about you? What have you got to lose, seriously?”

I Love Mondays

Alright, it’s Monday and I’m traveling again. And in my line of work, I seem to see a lot more than most. Here’s some midlife wisdom from bits and pieces along the way.

When you come to your midlife-crisis fork in the road, take it.

But don’t stop for dinner at the Midlife Crisis Cafe, nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.

MBA’s and Blogging are both overrated, and their similarities are different.

People call my friend a midlife old man, because back in his day, they called amphibians showoffs.

And when they said someone was a little green around the gills, they actually meant it.

Anyway, happy Monday.  It’s amazing the stuff you can think of when you think of stuff.

That last one is the only original.  All the others are on consignment.

Time to Celebrate?

As we go through life, we have obvious opportunities and some not so obvious. Have you ever considered this as part of your reality?

Many of the biggest opportunities happen at midlife. What we do when they arrive makes all the difference.

And the most overlooked, and inexpensive, opportunity to keep motivation alive is to celebrate milestones along the way. They come in three sizes: small, medium and large.

Yesterday I promised a few of mine, in an effort to practice the preaching. And by the way, all within the past 72 hours:

• 309 pages of raw content (not blog related)
• Met with CPA
• Ran 5 miles without any foot pain
• Eight hours of sleep for 7 consecutive days
• 347 straight days of starting each day on my knees

Do you find time to celebrate your milestones, no matter their size? What if you did.

So this is for the others. The few. The ones who know full well that life is hard and that carving out time has to be some one’s responsibility.

Did you watch the sunset last night? Or the sunrise this morning?

Time marches on. This is a beautiful story. Just like last night’s sunset. But you really have no idea do you?

As we all strive to stay alive in this brutal recession and down economy, it is the most creative and the hardest working that not only survive, but thrive.

How is it possible to thrive in a great depression?  Well, for starters, we’ve already mentioned it: be the most creative and hardest working in your industry.

Like this Central Florida Real Estate Agent.  She placed her business cards in the most creative and unusual place ever seen.  Shot a One-Take-You Tube video and posted it Super Bowl Sunday.

Yesterday, my Google Alert for Mid Life Celebration captured this viral spread of that You Tube video and the most amazing, simple, and creative Florida Real Estate Marketing you’ve seen in a long time.

Super Hero?

Men of a certain age is the target audience for Mid Life Celebration. Baby Boomer men, and Gen X men over 40 years old.

All are welcome, of course.  Yesterday’s Mid Life Celebration Guest Blogger, Lorie Sheffer, recommended “Men of a Certain Age” on TNT, tonight (Monday’s) at 10PM.
